Quilting for Lutheran World Relief

Join us as we work with Lutheran World Relief to show love to our neighbors throughout the world by making quilts (over 250 per year!). We meet the 2nd and 4th Thursday of the month (except for December and the summer months) from 9:30 AM to 1:30 PM in the Fellowship Hall. There are tasks for everyone so if you don't sew, join us anyway! Bring a sack lunch.

El Salvador - Central America

Our sister church in El Salvador is Rutilio Grande Lutheran Church.  The church is located in the community of San Jose Buena Vista.  We have been in a sister church relationship since August 2009, and helped in the construction of the new church building.

World Hunger

World Hunger and related issues have been a top priority of Grace Lutheran Church for over 30 years.  In October 2012, we celebrated the total giving of over $3 million dollars to World Hunger.

Do you want to learn about the causes of hunger and injustice from a Christian perspective? Do you want to find out how you can fight hunger in the world? Do you have questions about the ELCA World Hunger Appeal? If you answered yes to any of these questions, then come join us on the 3rd Tuesday of each month at 7 :00 PM in the Upper Room.  Our mission is to educate, inspire, and involve the congregation in combating World Hunger and to provide a climate of encouragement for individual and collective Christian action.

Haiti is the poorest country in the Western Hemisphere, with an average annual income of $400.00.  Our sister church relationship with a church in Aux Coteaux has had an incredible impact on Grace members who have traveled there to live and work with the people.  Mission trips to Haiti take place on a regular basis.  In addition, many members and friends of Grace participate in sponsoring Haitian school children for a minimal yearly cost that covers tuition, two school uniforms, shoes, school books and a medical check-up. Our first mission trip to Jamaica was in 1992, and many more have followed.  We have a sister church relationship with the church in Queensbury, and have also been integral in sponsoring a medical clinic.  Work projects while in Jamaica have included work on both the church and school.

Guatemala - Central America

Pics from Grace Feb 2013 team 056small

Our first ever "women only" mission trip was to Guatemala in February, 2012.  This now biannual trip includes 8-12 women from Grace who focus on building relationships with and supporting women who are trying to escape the cycle of domestic violence. These women have found a safe place to live at El Refugio, and are involved in many classes and counseling sessions as they learn to live in a new pattern of life.  By supporting the women and their children, women of Grace have grown in their own faith.

Working with the Agrellas family, missionaries from Grace who have lived Guatemala, our mission teams have also done projects at El Refugio, such as building a compost bin, planting vegetable gardens, teaching knitting and other skills, cooking and baking with the women, and painting and decorating projects.  While on the first trip, the team also worked with Pastor Jorge and his church at Linda Vista, a squatters village in the city.

October 2012, saw a new team formed from the Spirituality of the 12-Step class at Grace and this team has now focused on working with Pastor Jorge and his ministry. A major project they have already tackled was to provide a better system for clean water in the village.
